Faith-based organizations

Since 2015, I have been providing psychotherapy services and consultation to clergy, religious leaders, vocations directors and religious formators. I understand how important it is for individuals who strongly identify with their religious faith, or are in a religious formation or a religious vocation, to work with a therapist who is sensitive to their religious beliefs and exhibits cultural competence with incorporating aspects of their spiritual identity into their therapy work.

Psychotherapy

I have provided psychotherapy to individuals from a wide range of religious faiths and have had extensive experience collaborating with spiritual leaders, vocation directors, formators or religious superiors who refer individuals or families to therapy. I have also provided group therapy to religious communities, where a small number of individuals living together needed, time-limited, group treatment to address interpersonal difficulties within their living community.

Consultation and Seminars

I often consult with religious leaders about issues related to mental health, interpersonal difficulties or acculturation concerns that arise about candidates, students, members of their congregation or staff.

I also provide seminars and webinars for conferences or smaller groups in a variety of topic areas specific to church communities and diocesan or religious life. Topic areas have included:

  • Mental Health in Ministry Settings
  • Implicit Bias (one or two part series”
  • Understanding Mood and Anxiety Disorders
  • Striving to Understand Personality and Culture
  • Tools for Successful Acculturation
  • Healthy Technology Use
