A payment schedule for ongoing psychotherapy will be decided with each client prior to starting services. Typically, fees are either collected at the time of the service, or an invoice schedule is determined on either a bi-weekly or monthly basis. Options for method of payment include cash, check or electronic payment.
If you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, and you have not notified me at least 48 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full cost of the treatment as booked, since that time was reserved for you and was not available to other clients.
As a licensed clinical psychologist, my professional services qualify for patient reimbursement, and may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. As an “out-of-network provider,” I collect fees directly from you, however many plans allow you to apply for reimbursement using the billing statements I will provide for you. I can also provide your insurance company with any additional information about me that they need to process your claim. I encourage you to contact your insurance company prior to your first appointment with me to determine your outpatient mental health benefits.
Therapy sessions are your time to discuss your primary concerns and issues in your life. I will assist you through this difficult process by providing a safe, consistent and validating environment. A session lasts 50 minutes, but some people request longer sessions. Typically, once-weekly sessions are necessary at the beginning of psychotherapy to build a successful rapport and begin making changes. Changes to the frequency of therapy can always be discussed and will be determined by your needs and our success with meeting treatment goals. We will use the first few sessions to outline your primary concerns, evaluate your needs and desires, and determine if we are a good fit. Once we decide to work together, we will discuss your goals for the treatment and begin our work towards attaining those goals.
The law protects the privacy of all communications between a client and a psychologist. In most situations, I can only release information about your treatment to others if you sign a written authorization form that meets certain legal requirements imposed by HIPAA. There are some situations in which I am legally obligated to take action in order to prevent harm. These situations are unusual in my practice, and include the following:
As a psychologist, I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
The psychologist, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
As psychologist, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in insuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, further measures may be taken without their permission in order to ensure their safety.
If any of the above situations arise, I will make every effort to fully discuss it with you before taking any required action, and I will limit disclosure to what I believe to be legally necessary.
